An echocardiogram is an ultrasound of the heart that is used to examine the heart’s structure and function. An echocardiogram may also be requested for people who are undergoing chemotherapy treatment.
The results of an echocardiogram can help investigate or detect:
- Cardiomyopathy
- Abnormal heart valves and rhythms
- Congenital heart disease
- Heart murmurs
- Inflammation around the heart
